Discussion:

Cloudy conditions continue to be the trend as we close out the week. By Saturday, rain chances come back with a very similar setup to what rainfall was like Thursday. Towards the end of the weekend we begin to clear!

Technical Discussion:

Rain showers are moving out of the area Thursday afternoon however the cloud cover will be staying in place as we remain saturated in the lower levels until midnight. During the overnight hours, a strong 300mb jet streak will be moving in. Bringing with it, cold air advection and upper-level divergence overnight tonight into early Friday morning. At 12Z Friday, the upper-level jet streak will be forced out to our east as a high-pressure system over Kansas moves in. Thus switching our upper-level flow to be more meridional before returning to more of a zonal flow by Friday afternoon.

Friday stays mostly clear as the vort max from Thursday passes to the north of the region and heads towards the Great Lakes. At 00Z Saturday, moisture aloft tries to advect into the region thanks to a shortwave associated with a low-pressure system over the Pacific Northwest. Both the GFS and the NAM show the moisture at 700mb not being able to make it far enough south into our area, but it is very close. Since there is no moisture available in the lower levels, there is not a risk for rain at this time. However, we could see some brief upper-level cloud cover.

The next chance for rain occurs Saturday 15Z. Another shortwave makes its way into the region, bringing a significant amount of circulation. The low-level jet is also in the region thanks to the low-pressure system over the Pacific Northwest. The low-level jet advects significant amounts of warm air and moisture into the area causing all levels to become saturated at 15Z. Due to our temperatures being in the upper 40s, rain will be expected. Rain will continue until early morning on Sunday. Total rain accumulation is not expected to exceed 0.25 inches.
