Discussion:

Cooler temperatures stay the trend until Friday night when a cold front passes through bringing a slim chance of sprinkles. Saturday the clouds clear up and warmer temperatures begin to make an appearance just in time for the Superbowl.

Technical Discussion:

The NAM was used for the creation of this forecast instead of the GFS due to the way it handled moisture returns Friday night and the overall track of the closed low. GFS kept moisture more prevalent in our forecasting region suggesting a greater chance of accumulative rainfall.

A mid-latitude cyclone has been affecting our region since Wednesday evening that brought significant rainfall Wednesday night into early morning Thursday, this will exit our area by this evening. We're on the western edge of the upper level flow and the flow will continue to move east being driven by an amplified upper-level trough from our west. This trough will eventually turn to a closed low over the TX, OK, and AR border Saturday morning. The long wave approaches mid MO bringing a cold front into the region which also brings a slight chance of sprinkles as moisture moves out of our area. Most of this should remain south due to upper-level flow being out of the north. This will shift our winds from a northeastern flow to a more Southern flow as we go into Saturday night. This wind shift is caused by the high pressure that moves in behind the long-wave, warming our temperatures for Saturday afternoon. This weather pattern will continue through the remainder of our forecasting period which leaves temperatures favorable for the Chiefs to take on the Eagles on Sunday.

Forecast Note:  Next forecasting shift may want to consider the development of frontogenisis to our West which may potentially impact our region during their forecasting period.
