Technical Discussion:
An upper level ridge resides in the northern Mississippi Valley region, spilling over into Missouri for the remainder of the week. This high pressure persists down to the lower levels and the surface, leaving Columbia in a bubble of warm temperatures and clear skies. From the absence of vertical motions and moisture from these layers, the region sees little to no cloud formation allowing for solar heating during the daytime and radiational cooling at night. Therefore, expect the high temperatures to be in the mid 80’s, and the lows reaching down to the low 60s for the rest of the week.
GFS soundings agree with dry layers only showing slight saturation within the lower levels moving into Saturday. During this time, an upper level trough propagates eastward from the Pacific Northwest, but is not expected to affect the region during this forecasting period.
A combination of GFS and NAM models were used to create this forecast.
