Discussion:

Today's temperature's will be much lower than yesterday's with the high temperatures hovering around 60.  As the day proceeds the cold front will move out of our area with fair skies following in behind.  Overnight will be clear and the coldest night of the year so far.  Be sure to cover your plants or bring them inside.  Tomorrow will be blustery with winds of 15 mph.  Friday night will again be cool and clear with lows around 40.  Saturday will be a breezy, but pleasant day with much warmer temperatures.

Technical Discussion (The nerdy stuff we are discussing in class)

The GFS, SREF, and upper air soundings were used for this forecast.  The main focus for this forecast period will be the cold front that passes through on Thursday and the cooler temps that it brings with it.

Today, a cold front will pass through bringing with it elevated amounts of moisture with RH levels in the 90s in the mid-level.  These high RH levels will contribute to the cloud cover in central Missouri.  After the front passes, Thursday night will be much colder due to the deepening of the trough in the jet stream.

Friday's fair skies and windy conditions will be a result of the high pressure in the  moving in behind the front.  Friday's temperatures will be similar to Thursday's because of the passing of the front.  The tighter pressure gradient will cause windy conditions of around 15 mph.

Saturday will be much warmer than both Thursday and Friday.  The jet will lift to the North of Columbia, winds shift to out of the south, providing ample warm air advection. This will lead to the warmest temperatures of the forecast period. These winds will be temperate around 20 mph.
