Discussion: Temperatures cool down during the weekend. The sky will be mostly clear Saturday and Sunday with partly cloudy evenings. Dry conditions continue along with gusty winds which could lead to rapidly spreading fires. Do not light any fires tonight to help prevent fire emergencies.

Technical Discussion:

Mid-MO is currently at the bottom of a longwave trough with a low-pressure system over the Great Lakes and Canada. Both the NAM and the GFS show the jet stream is over Missouri for the entire forecast period. Saturday 00z we see a weak low pressure system at the surface move through Columbia with winds coming from the southwest. As this low moves away between 02z and 03z we see the wind shift as a cold front from the northwest moves through Mid-MO. This tells us that the sky will clear up around Saturday 02z and the temperatures will cool Saturday morning.

Both the NAM and the GFS tell us that there will be minimal moisture on Saturday in the upper and lower atmosphere leaving us with not much there to support cloud production. This will lead to Saturday being clear.

The NAM and GFS agree that there is an upper level disturbance, aka a shortwave that moves through the region overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. However, since there is no saturation in the upper or lower levels of the atmosphere we will see no precipitation or clouds leaving us with a clear sky throughout Sunday.
